new insight..stop it mom!

when trying a new food like cottage cheese, don't keep feeding your child because you think the face they give in response is funny. I am still laughing however at Sarah's facial expression over the disgust of each spoon full. why did I not stop? I just kept going as a few more spoonfuls provided a few more laughs...why do you think she threw it up? okay, lesson learned.

A gated community

Some folks purchase baby gates from the normal venues like a Babies R Us. Not the Sawyers. We go through a pet website to get the gate we need. The dilemma arose when we needed a gate to keep the babies in but big sis could have access to come and go as she pleases. Research led to pet sites...evidently folks with dogs have this same problem. A toddler who needs to open the gate and a dog needing to be contained. Sarah is currently that dog. MM runs when Sarah chases her. We try to call Sarah to crawl to us. She is happy when given a few cheerio biscuits. I can see the future therapy sessions now...

Crab Rangoons

My name is Sarah Sawyer and this is MY story...
Yesterday was Valentines. No different to me than any other day. I know mom and dad love to put me to bed at 6 every night so they can enjoy dinner. Last night was no different. Of course big sister MM gets to often stay up with them and enjoy eating too. Caroline and I like to help her out by taking awhile to fall asleep. While trying to go to sleep last night I heard dad mention something about going to a Yummy Hut. Not sure what that is, but as I fell asleep I thought, when can I enjoy this yummy thing? what is it?

One of the joys of my mornings is getting to hang with Bennie and Macky before they go to school. Bennie read to me a little and then off to school he went...I was left alone and then I saw it...something on the floor (and for those of you who don't know, I have been crawling for weeks and can now go room to room. caroline, well she might catch my dust). So I put my crafty skills to use and went to capture a little snack. I guess big sister was a little messy with her yummy, so I was able to put a few handfuls in my mouth and then escape to the playroom. After a little bit I saw a look on mom's face and thought, oh no...busted! She came over and after a few painful fingers in my mouth my snack was gone (she doesn't know how much already went in my tummy). A whole wad of something she claimed was a crab rangoon was in her hand while all I could think was....what is yummy about this?

I WANT MORE!!!

auntie liz, please come back....

After flying on the red eye from L.A., Liz Rietz arrived to a snowy Boston at 5:20 AM. Many cups of coffee later, she assured me that she was fine watching the twins while I went to MM's school for a project. Now in case you don't know Liz, one of her strong aversions is vomit- a secret fear of hers. No one likes vomit, but Liz breaks out in a sweat anytime she becomes nauseous.

Earlier in the week, after my husband's suggestion, I took the twins to the doctors to discover they have bronchitis: coughing, vomit, etc... By the time Liz arrived the twins had seemed to be doing better. So off to Park Street Kids I go..

45 minutes later, phone call. Caroline threw up... poor Liz was able to clean it up and give Caroline new clothes. An hour later, Sarah threw up in her high chair. Auntie Liz cleaned Sarah up and throws all vomited clothes, towels, and high chair insert into the sink. The twins were coughing so much that out comes whatever they ate or drank from before.

Does lunch and Burdick's hot chocolate really erase the deep scars of vomit? Will Liz ever come back to visit? Leaving Boston at 10 degrees and returning to a 75 degrees California, Liz may never return....but auntie Liz, we miss you!!! MM keeps asking when the playdate with Annabelle will occur?!

how to get over any deep fear...immerse yourself into chez Sawyer!

Anyone can parent...(aka..please pray for our parents)

After the second night of waking up to eat bottles, I realized, the twins actually are hungry. Maybe I should feed them more during the day. They probably think, "why doesn't mom know to feed us more? hasn't she done this before? wish we could talk and tell her the facts."
They are now given more food and seem happy. The whole scenario reminds me of a story that occurred back in the fall. MM kept waking up crying that her toes hurt. Not one to give in to drama, I didn't think much about it. Turns out her feet had grown and her toes were getting smooshed in shoes that were too small for her (2x a week she was walking half a mile to the T with daddy). Have mercy!
Anyone can parent. Do you think the twins ability to poop after given a clean diaper is their way of getting back at us?

conversations you never thought you would have...

Mary Margaret woke up with underwear on her mind. She has spent the morning in Hello Kitty undies with many trips back in forth to the potty. While I was feeding Caroline, MM was in the bathroom alone. She emerges with no undies, and my deodorant in her hand. After a few questions, I realize that yes, she put my deodorant on her privates. So I proceeded to tell her that deodorant in fact does not go on our privates while wondering...why am I having this conversation?

so all the girls have colds and smell, so their oh so smart mom thought it would be a good idea to have all the girls take a bath together. after all, the twins can sit up, it would take some time out of the morning, and then everyone would be clean (and if we are honest, when was the last time the twins were cleaned?) . I should have known when I somehow had some of poop from sarah's diaper on my pjs that this may not be a good idea, but hindsight...well, you know the saying....

All three girls were sitting in the tub and big sister was so happy to have company. I cleaned sarah, got her out, and almost had new clothes on her when big sister shouts, "poopy, I poopied" What to do??... MM hasn't done this in over a year....I grab caroline out then MM... put mm directly on the potty in case any more was to follow, then grab naked caroline who is sitting on the bath mat, put her in the sink to try and finish the cleaning job on her...meanwhile, sarah starts moving toward the dirty diapers to play with...

MM wants off the potty, but I have to finish with caroline in the bathroom sink (which in case you don't know, is probably to small for a newborn).
Diapers taken away from Sarah. Caroline is now on the way to clean clothes too.....

MM is taken off the potty.... poop from bathtub is thrown into potty... tub has to be cleaned..... babies moved to hallway. Tub cleaned out...now mm goes in...by this point the idea of a "fun" bathtime is over. She starts crying and wants to get out, but of course she has poopy everywhere, so she has to be cleaned off....

new clothes for mm. another round of cleaning the tub.... bath toys thrown into the sink to be cleaned off...

MM "watches" sisters in the hallway while I have to shower... all alive when I get out 3 minutes later....

Another round of laundry...MM is watching Blues Clues, and I need to go get something to drink...no worries, nothing strong yet :)

...of course what looms in the back of my mind is my mocking my husband this morning on the conversation of leashing the twins when they start walking. I just can't imagine leashing my children, but then again, I can't even handle bathtime!!!!

so if for some reason your life seems boring, come spend a morning with us, you never know what will happen....

and now we are all CLEAN....
